Bunnell home watch for owners who live out of town
Bunnell is the kind of place people inherit a house in, keep a house in after moving away, or buy a house in to rent out. In each case the owner is somewhere else, and the house sits on a street they rarely see.
A small city with a lot of land
Bunnell is the seat of Flagler County, on US 1 where State Road 100 crosses it. The older streets near downtown keep a tight grid of houses from many decades, and the city limits reach far beyond them into pasture, pine and newer subdivisions.
What changes while you are away
- The lawn, which grows fastest from June through September
- Limbs, moss and leaves from live oaks and pines, on the roof and in the gutters
- Fences and gates, after a windy week
- The ditch or swale along the road, after heavy rain
- Anything stored in the yard or under a carport
The street side and the yard
On an in-town lot, a set of photos from the street shows the roof line, the front yard and the drive. A deeper lot, or a back yard behind a fence, calls for photos from the open grounds, and a big parcel is easiest to take in from a drone.
Who uses the photos
- Owners who moved away and kept the house
- Heirs deciding what to do with a family home
- Landlords between one tenant and the next
- Owners lining up a lawn crew, a tree service or a roofer from out of state
